Tanner Sands’ talent extends through many genres of vocal music and stagecraft, performing in everything from Pop to Musical Theater to Opera to Shakespeare.  His favorite roles include; Agis (Triumph of Love, Centerstage Emerging Artists Series), Freddy Einsford-Hill (My Fair Lady, Performance Now), Rapunzel’s Prince (Into the Woods, Ignite Theater), Charlie Dalyrimple (Brigadoon, Performance Now), Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Powerhouse Theater Company) and Papageno (The Magic Flute, Boulder Opera Company).

Tanner was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Superior, Colorado.  He discovered his love for theater in a 6th grade production of Bye Bye Birdie, he played Ed Sullivan (a non-singing role). He had such a great experience that he insisted in getting voice lessons so he could “get a better part in the school shows.” He spent his youth developing his talent through local children’s theater in middle/high school productions and at Center Stage Theater Company. The decision to pursue music in college was one of the hardest choices that he’d ever made, but ultimately it was the best…doing what he loves and chasing his dream!

He has a Bachelors of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Colorado, graduating with High Honors. He studied under Grammy Award Nominee Patrick Mason. His success at CU is reflected in the many awards and scholarships that he received; he was named the Outstanding Freshman of the Year in the School of Music, he was a two time Anderson Award finalist, he was the recipient of the Claudia Boetcher Merthan Vocal Scholarship and the Lauren Boyle Musical Theater Scholarship.

He studied acting at New York Stage and Film’s highly acclaimed Powerhouse Theater Company at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. He also attended the renowned Broadway Theater Project which Playbill referred to as “The world’s most prestigious musical theatre arts education program for high school and college students.”  He has had the privilege of taking master classes with such talented Broadway performers as; Alex Gemignani (Les Miserables), Lauren Pastorek (Rockettes), Nancy Anderson (Kiss Me Kate), Erin Quill (Avenue Q) and Lawrence Street (Urinetown).

Tanner recently finished an Acting Apprenticeship at the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. He appeared in a touring children’s show, taught playwrighting in local schools, and was a regular performer with the acclaimed FST Improv Troupe.

He is excited to be able to give back to the local community that has been so good to him. Tanner brings his passion, energy and exceptional work ethic to everything that he does.
